iPhone
Well, the iPhone hasn't done anything for me since lunchtime -- I feel a little let down.

But it did find a restaurant for me at lunch. My friend Jenny and I were looking for a hamburger place named Dick's that people say good things about and we heard there was one nearby. We didn't see it by randomly walking around so I asked iPhone's Google Maps for "Dicks in Seattle" and it showed us there was one about a block away. Then we had a nice giggle as Google could only find five dicks in all of Seattle. Whoever named that place was clearly a "pillar" of comedy.

One bad thing: I can't seem to play music from it at work since my home machine has the officially synced iTunes. I knew I wouldn't be able to drag music to it, but I though I could still *listen* to its music at work. Of course I can plug headphones into it but I want to hear my computer's sound too.

A good thing though: it has a great stopwatch, which I've wanted a lot of times over the years. Last night I used it while exercising. What I really want is a countdown timer though, the built-in one only goes by minutes and I want 90 seconds. Or a few weeks ago I realized a board game was missing its timer -- I would have wanted a 30 second one then. Bill, maybe this is an app you could make. It could even have an egg timer graphic on it. Or maybe the app store has one already, I haven't delved into that yet.

Gotta go. I have to cradle my iPhone some more -- they're so fragile at this stage.

There are already a bunch of free apps on the App Store that do various timing things, so I'd recommend taking a look there. :) Remember that you can access the App Store from the iPhone directly, and download & install applications without a computer.

btw, Dick's is a pretty good burger, but I've had better. They're pretty comparable to In-n-Out, actually.

To listen to your music, get a stereo aux cable and plug the iPhone into your line-in jack on the computer. There is no way to sync more than one iTunes library to a single iPod device. Sucks a lot, if you ask me. I should be able to transfer all of my music from one PC to my iPod to my work PC and back.

I'm trying not to eat burgers except on special occasions, so I prefer Whole Foods to Dicks or In-n-Out. HAHAHAHAHAHahem.

I like the idea of using the PC audio-in to get my iPhone music. Good plan.

Ok, here's an app you can make then: it's called iKiss and it has a couple different faces to choose from and when you touch (kiss) the screen it plays a short loop of them kissing the screen from the inside. So you could kiss your phone and it would kiss you back. Kind of a joke on how people love the iPhone but sexy so it would actually catch on.

Actually, I prefer to listen to my music (well mostly podcasts) on the iPhone via headphones even when I'm home alone. I can walk around and take calls without pausing. Since you drive a bit more than me, you should get a charger/FM transmitter all-in-one for your car!

Here's some typing tips I've learned:
- Thumb typing works just fine.

- Don't use the very tip of your finger, using the pad of your thumb.

- When you press a key, hold for a split second for the big "pop up" key. If the wrong key pops up, slide your finger (without lifting it) to the correct key.

- Power through the typos. I have to resist the urge to fix them when it looks like the iPhone will correct it for me. If you do need to go back into a sentence to make edits, hold your finger in the text field and a magnifying glass will pop up and you can move the cursor to where you need it.

You are making me want one of these more than I should!

The thing I actually love about the iPhone is the "internet at my fingertips" aspect. Other phones do this too but the iPhone has a nice big screen and is *just* fast enough to make it usable. I'm embarrassed to admit it makes me see the world in a new way, like when I first got a cell phone. Our kids are going to talk about desktop machines the way we talk about mainframes.
Of course, it's also making me see my cell-phone bill in a new, even worse way.

This is exactly why I made the jump after just having a Blackberry for a few months. By far, I use the Web on the go much more than texting, games, etc. I have yet to see Mobile Safari not render a page correctly (except Flash based stuff of course). The super sharp text rendering and the ability to intuitively zoom in and out makes viewing a normal web page on a tiny screen totally doable.

Did you find Dick's? Fucking fantastic burgers and fries. Nothing gets better than that, even high quality burgers I can only consider comparable. Granted its a very different thing, Dick's burgers are the burgers you see going down the assembly line in commercials that are all smushed, fancy ones are the commercials other nice looking burgers. Their fries are greasy and salty as well, compared to the picture perfect fries. I love the layed back attitude they have. YES smash that burger and eat it! :D I fucking love it. Badass food. Good shakes too I hear! If they had one over here in Kirkland, I'd eat there every day.

Yep, we found it. It made me realize how horrible McDonalds is -- for roughly the same price Dicks is way better at a really similar product. I did have a shake as well, it was good.
