book recommendation: Soon I will Be Invincible
I'm back from vacation (more on that later hopefully), during which I read "Soon I will Be Invincible", which I enjoyed a lot. It's told alternately from a villain and hero's point of view with just the right amount of "behind the scenes of a superpowered person" to be interesting. It is still completely in-genre though so it's not sticking to reality too closely. It's squarely in the vein of Dr. Horrible's Sing-along blog, but a little more serious and without the singing (though still a light read). I recommend it.

I read that some time ago (rather, I listened to it). I liked it, but I kept thinking that it was written in the hope that some movie producer would pick it up. "A new twist on the superhero genre! How delightful!" etc.

That surprises me, just because so much of the story takes place in the characters' heads. Given that they tried to film Dune (and are now doing Watchmen), I won't say that no one would try to make a movie out of it, but it doesn't really strike me as naturally filmable.

I also loved the book-- no surprise, given that I'm pretty much dead in the center of the target audience. Doctor Impossible's voice just struck me as pitch-perfect for someone who's very smart, ...differently-motivated, and who can't quite figure out where things keep going wrong. (In particular, I like the way the reader is clued into things about CoreFire that the protagonist is quite unable to see himself.)
